IV Sedation
Anxious Patients
Who is suitable?
Everyone who is fit and healthy can have sedation, however sedation is particularly helpful for patients with a strong fear or phobia of the dentistry, patients who have had a traumatic or negative experience in the past, patients with a strong gag reflex or patients with long and complicated treatment procedure, such as dental implants.
Cost of IV Sedation?
The cost of sedation is €160. This charge is separate to the charges associated with the dental treatment undertaken.
Who carries out the sedation?
John is specially trained to carry out dental sedation as he has completed a postgraduate diploma in Conscious Sedation in Dentistry in 2015 in Trinity College. This was in addition his previous training in sedation in Guy’s hospital London.
John is a member of the international society of dental anxiety management, Irish society of conscious sedation in dentistry society for the advancement of anaesthesia in dentistry and also a member of the Irish Dental Association.

Absolutely the best dentists I have been to. From the second you walk in everyone in there is as helpful as they can possibly be. As a nervous patient they do their absolute most for me everytime and completely put me at ease. Sullivan Dental is a very friendly, efficient and a hugely professional dental practice.

From the moment you walk in, you’re treated with real care and professionalism. The whole team, reception, nurses, and support staff, make you feel at ease straight away. Excellent team, brilliant at their work I am the most nervous patient ever, but without a doubt, Rena and John never fail to help me. I could be in tears going in, but laughing going out. John goes out of his way to make you feel at ease, even playing your favourite music. I honestly can’t fault the team at Sullivan Dental; they really are without a doubt brilliant at their work.

Very professional service Best Dentist in Carlow, when you go in for an appointment, you are put totally at your ease and the procedure is explained to you. Very professional service. I had Surgery and extractions carried out, never felt a thing, and everything was 100% afterwards. Highly recommended to everyone.

I wouldn't go anywhere else in the future I went to Sullivan Dental in pain and met Valentina and her nurse, Charlotte. They were brilliant as I am a very nervous patient. They were so kind. Had an extraction and would highly recommend them. The girls on reception were brilliant too, fitting me in on the day I rang. I wouldn't go anywhere else in the future.

Supportive and understanding team Excellent dentist, John and the team have always been supportive and understanding about anxiety around the dentist for myself and my parents, we’ve all had traumatic experiences in dentists before, and John and his team have helped us over that fear.
